Keeping Your Patience When Nothing Is Working Out

There are times in life where it feels like nothing is moving.

You’re doing what you can. You’re trying to stay positive. But things just aren’t lining up the way you hoped they would.

And that’s usually when the word patience shows up.

But if I’m being honest… patience has never been an easy thing to sit in.

Because it can feel a lot like waiting. And waiting can feel a lot like nothing is happening.

What I’ve started to notice, though, is that it’s not always about waiting for something better to come along.

Sometimes it’s about how we’re relating to where we already are.

It’s easy to get caught up in what’s missing. What’s not working. What hasn’t shown up yet.

But that mindset has a way of keeping us stuck in that same feeling—like we’re always just a step behind where we want to be.

For me, the shift has been small but important.

Instead of focusing so much on what isn’t there yet… I try to take better care of what is and where I am now.

Even if it feels like very little.

Whether that’s my time, my energy, my responsibilities, or even just how I’m showing up day to day.

Because when I’m checked out or overwhelmed, I tend to avoid things. I put them off. I don’t deal with them fully.

And that only seems to add to the pressure.

But when I stay a little more present with what’s in front of me—even if it’s not ideal—things start to feel more manageable.

Not perfect. Just steadier.

And sometimes that’s enough to create a bit of movement.

I’ve also had to learn to give myself some grace in those moments.

Because it’s easy to think you’re doing something wrong when things aren’t working out.

But not everything is meant to happen all at once.

Some things take time to unfold.

And in the meantime, all you can really do is keep showing up, take care of what you can, and trust that you’re not as stuck as it feels…and that this too shall pass.
